The George E. Thompson Academic Scholarship & George E. Thompson Achievement Scholarship

The George E. Thompson scholarships are awarded to acknowledge and recognize the contributions made by George E. Thompson native of Nassau County , Florida.  George E. Thompson was born in Nassau County, Florida and he was a business man, a visionary, an entrepreneur, a long-time board member of Impact Your World Church and a deacon of The Elm Street Church of God in Fernandina Beach, Florida.  He was born in Kings Ferry (Florida) in 1933 to John H. Thompson and Ernestine Baker Thompson. In 1955 he launched what became George E. Thompson Building Contractor, Inc.  He grew the business and it became a prominent, successful building construction company. Later it was recognized as one of the longest participating contractors in Florida and setting the example for other black men in practicing the trade in Nassau County.  Deacon Thompson died on August 18, 2023.  His legacy as a man of faith, as family man and as a leader in business and civic organizations set the example for generations of students to strive for excellence and to follow their dreams.  The George E. Thompson Academic Scholarship & George E. Thompson Achievement Scholarships strive to recognize the top two graduating African-American students, based on Grade Point Average or GPA, in the Nassau County School District.  These memorial scholarships also serve to encourage and inspire all African-Americans in the Nassau County school district to strive for higher academic achievement.  These scholarships were launched in 2024.
